Goodbye to teenage years

In fact, the busy times have been prevailing at least over the last two to three weeks, so that's pretty easy to summarise: study study study!! I don't think I've ever been as busy for uni as the two weeks just before end of term last Wednesday. Busy for anything that falls into the category of education come to think of it, haha. Not even when I had my final high school exams!! It was a new experience, all that hard work, but I'm glad it's over and I can take up the usually easy uni-life again :) Despite the studying for exams and the writing of essays taking up almost all of my time of the past three weeks, I'm still enjoying my course, so it's all okay :) And I guess I am to blame for it myself, with my great procrastination skills I have brought to near perfection over the years, leaving everything to the very last minute, haha. Why start earlier than is absolutely necessary?? Got to love that pressure of deadlines approaching ;) But like I said, some time to take it easy and do nothing for a few days is very welcome too!!
Which is why I haven't really done much since I had met my last essay deadline last Tuesday and done my last exam Wednesday morning :) XL-weekends are the best!! It's when the busy times went and the fun times came in :) Wednesday night I went over to Hilversum, where my sister Renske and her boyfriend Paul now live together since a few weeks. So that was coowl, seeing their place getting more and more homely as more and more furniture and random stuff makes its way into it and the smell of "new" wears off, haha. And it was simply a fun night :)
A fun night with some sort of purpose behind it too by the way, coz I had to pick up Renske's sleeping bag and sleeping mat too, as my very good friend Jelmer came over to my place on Thursday/Friday. Couldn't let him sleep on the bare floor, now could I ;) Anyway, it was absolutely awesome, coz I hadn't seen him in ages!! Jelmer's a friend from high school, so I don't see him all that often anymore as we both moved to different places after school. So it was real good. We wandered around Utrecht during the day, made ourselves a four-person dinner (as you do when you're with just two people and my usual appetite, haha... I hope the bin enjoyed the food too!!), and drank a whole bottle of cheap wine while watching a really bad TV-movie and having great conversations :) We had lots of catching up to do!! Went out to Tivoli at night, but only for a little while, coz Jelmer had to get up early the next morning to get back to his place on time for work in the afternoon. So we were home by 2 am (!!) already and went to sleep not long after that. Was alright though, as we were both heaps tired and weren't much in the mood for dancing the night away anyway :) I had a great time with Jelmer though, a time filled with music, friends and fun. It's what life is all about :)
Well, Friday I set off for Hengelo again, to spend the rest of my XL-weekend at my parents' place. It was their 29th wedding anniversary this weekend, so they went out for a romantic dinner for two while I stayed home and shoved a pizza in the oven and settled myself in front of the TV for a relaxed TV-night :) There was a huge storm going on outside, thunder and lightning and heavy rains and hail and the wind howling around the house.... the whole lot!! You know, like those storms you see in corny Hollywood horror movies where people run upstairs instead of outside to meet an almost certain death and there's always a power cut at some point to make it look more scary... That sort of storm, except there wasn't any killer around my house and there wasn't a power cut either :) Just the storm and me :)
The storm caused the fire brigade to come to our street the next morning though!! There used to be this single tree across from our house, but it had been blown over and pulled out of the ground by the strong winds of the night before, and it had landed right on top of the house across from us, so it had to be cut down completely. No damage done to the house or anything luckily :) So that was the story of the day yesterday, always something happening in good old Hengelo, haha.
And now I'm just spending my last day of teenagehood in Hengelo before going back to Utrecht tomorrow arvo and start my new life as a 'twenty-something' and start my new uni term the next day as well. Will be coowl to have my birthday both with my parents in the morning and then with my roommates in the evening with it being Tuesday girls night and everything too :) Renske and Paul might drop in too... Should be a good day :) Not sure if I'm going to have a real birthday celebration yet though, but might get some friends together at some point. I'm not really the 'celebrating my birthday' type of person as some of you might know, so we'll see :)
Well, that's it for me :) I hope everybody's doing good, having fun and spent a lovely long Cup Day weekend in the warm summer sun and had a good old Aussie barbie with friends on Cup Day itself last week :) Or whatever else you've been doing... I just hope you had a good time :) And everybody who still has (uni) exams: good luck, I'm sure you'll do great :) Take care!!
Love Carine
